"I make drawings that are transferred to a metal-backed photopolymer etching plate. These plates can be used to do traditional intaglio print making, using a hand operated relief press. Each fine art print is made by hand, incorporating centuries old techniques, like chine-collé or a la poupée – with a huge variety of results. It is an ever evolving and endlessly creative way of making art."

About the Artist

Lana de Jager emigrated from South Africa to Australia in 1998 and settled in Melbourne. Having obtained a BA Honours Degree in advertising and visual communication in 1994, she followed her degree with 2 years as a lecturer [1995-1996] at Potchefstroom University and the East London Technical College [South Africa], teaching Graphic Design History & Techniques, History of Art and Still Life & Figure Drawing. Until 2016 she followed a career in Graphic Design for studios in Birmingham (UK), Worcester (UK), Brisbane (1998-2003) and Melbourne (2004-2016).

In 2016 Lana started producing full-time and focussed on building a career in fine art. The result has been over 50 gallery exhibitions, including 13 solo exhibitions.

2021 saw her creating an annual printmaker’s ‘game’ for Victorian artists, called “Superimposed”, which was funded for the second time for 2023/2024 (superimposed.com.au and @superimposed2023).

Lana moved to Brisbane in 2025, and quickly started to build a network of local artists with whom to connect with as only artists can.

The Churn Room is so pleased to be able to present this pop up exhibition as Lana's first solo showcase since relocating to Brisbane.
