Details
This 5-hour copper jewellery making workshop is suitable for beginners.
Connect – the latin origin ‘together bind’, is the relationship in which a person or thing is linked or possibly how we as people are linked to that around us or for this workshop, how we connect with shapes and textures.
In this 5hr workshop you’ll work out your shapes and then design and create with texture, drilled/cut out holes, stamping, finishing and then how to raise and join together with the technique ‘cold connection’.
This technique is used when pieces generally cannot be soldered together due to material. A sterling silver wire is placed through the pre-drilled holes on the top and bottom metal sheet and then using small cut copper tube pieces to help raise the top piece to give that 3D look. Then the wire is slowly hammered on top to make the final rivet closure to hold all together.
A selection of Brooch pins will be available to choose from to adhere to the back of your finished design (including one that has a bail attachment to then also hang onto a chain)
All materials and tools will be provided in the workshop fee, along with the use of Sonya’s own old heirloom Hand-Drill that she personally uses in her home studio on a daily basis, for drilling out larger holes. With Sonya’s fun and instructive advice, you’ll enjoy learning to make your own Copper Brooch.
Brooches at the end of the class will be left in its ‘raw’ state, so can patina.
