When & Where

12 Sept 2026, 9:30 am – 3:30 pm AEST

The Churn Room, 38 Williams St, Dayboro QLD 4521, Australia

Details

Watercolour is a medium many people aspire to use. It is luminous and expressive, but it can also feel unpredictable and difficult to control.

This workshop is suitable for beginners.

Helen Evans will guide you to explore:

  • Surfaces and materials

  • Paint application and water control

  • Colour mixing

  • Layering techniques

  • Observation and composition

Watercolour has a reputation for being tricky, especially for beginners.

This workshop is designed to help you build confidence by working with intention and awareness. You will learn how to observe carefully, make considered decisions, and layer paint with purpose and patience.

By the end of the session, you will have a stronger understanding of how to use watercolour thoughtfully - and how to let it work with you rather than against you.

All materials provided (including homemade cake!)... No experience necessary.

About Helen Evans

Helen Evans is a full-time professional artist whose work has been exhibited internationally and is held in private and corporate collections.

Her practice is rooted in direct observation and disciplined drawing from life, which forms the foundation of her richly layered paintings. Drawing is central to her process and underpins both her studio work and her teaching.

Helen has an established relationship with The Churn Room in Dayboro, where she has previously delivered multiple workshops and presented a solo exhibition in 2025, with another solo show scheduled for June this year. Her teaching is clear, structured and generous, combining technical rigour with encouragement and practical guidance.

Participants value her depth of knowledge, calm authority and her ability to build real, lasting confidence in artists at all stages of their development.
