Explore the art of expressive, imaginative character faces in this creative workshop using watercolours, drawing and fine-line pen.
You’ll begin by learning simple techniques for facial structure and proportions, then gently loosen the rules to develop playful, whimsical faces full of personality and charm.
Working with line, shape, colour and mark-making, we’ll focus on expression and storytelling rather than perfect realism. Each face becomes an opportunity to experiment, exaggerate and invent, allowing unique characters to emerge naturally through the process.
Suitable for beginners and more experienced artists alike, this relaxed and supportive workshop encourages creativity, confidence and the freedom to discover your own distinctive style.

About Claire Delaney McLeary
Claire Delaney is a teaching artisan with over 30 years of experience helping people discover the joy of creativity.
Through her workshops, she has guided hundreds of participants on creative journeys that encourage imagination, exploration and personal expression.
Drawing on a lifelong passion for art, storytelling and making, Claire creates welcoming spaces where people can learn new skills, build confidence and develop their own creative voice.
Working across a range of mediums including paint, collage, clay and mixed media, Claire’s workshops focus on process rather than perfection.
Her warm and supportive teaching style encourages curiosity, experimentation and the freedom to follow unexpected paths, helping people reconnect with their creativity and experience the satisfaction of bringing something uniquely their own into the world.
Notes for Workshop Participants
Please arrive 15 minutes before the workshop start time to get settled in our Workshop Area
Workshops are held in the Mezzanine, located upstairs within The Churn Room
Street parking is available on Williams Street
Workshop participants must wear closed in shoes and have long hair tied back.
We suggest wearing comfortable, breathable clothes suitable for warm weather conditions - we have fans, but our building is not air-conditioned
Access to the Mezzanine may be difficult for persons with significant mobility issues. It is not wheelchair accessible. Please consider this prior to booking.
