This hands-on, 2 day Master Class is perfect for artists, jewellers, and creatives who want to deepen their enamelling practice, develop thoughtful designs, and refine their skills in traditional firing techniques.
Saturday November 2025
Sunday 30 November 2025
9:00am-2:00pm both days.
INTERMEDIATE LEVEL: This workshop is suitable for intermediate and advanced students only. Prior enamelling experience is required (not suitable for beginners).
Day 1 – Champlevé Foundations
The first day focuses on champlevé and base preparations.
Participants will:
Learn how to create recessed areas in fine silver for enamel.
Explore design considerations and metal preparation.
Begin preparing their own champlevé pieces, with guidance on creating balanced, enamel-friendly designs.
Sketch designs suitable for cloisonné.
Shape cloisonné wires in preparation for Day 2.
Day 2 – Cloisonné Enamelling
On the second day, the focus shifts to cloisonné, where fine wires are used to create intricate patterns and cells filled with enamel.
Participants will:
Apply fine silver wires (cloisons) to their prepared designs.
Apply enamel in layers and practise essential kiln-firing sequences.
Learn finishing techniques such as stoning, polishing, and final presentation.
By the end of the workshop, each participant will complete at least one enamelled piece that combines craftsmanship, colour, and personal design.
Things to note:
All essential tools and materials are provided.
Students are welcome to bring along their own favourite tools, magnifiers, or note-taking materials to make the experience more comfortable.
This is an immersive two-day experience. Some activities—such as cloisonné wire shaping—may be continued at home if there isn’t enough time on Day One.
About Galina Ramensky-Manoiloff
"For the past 20 years, I have dedicated myself to the craft of jewellery-making and enamelling, with a particular focus on the intricate techniques of cloisonné and champlevé enamelling. My love for enamelling continues to deepen as I explore its endless possibilities, blending delicate grains of glass with precious metals to create one-of-a-kind pieces. The ability to shape raw materials, from glass to metal, and incorporate precious and semi-precious stones into each creation is both challenging and profoundly rewarding.
Drawing inspiration from a vast array of sources from the rich history of renowned artists to the natural world that surrounds me each piece I create reflects my personal journey and vision. The fusion of enamel, metal, and gemstones allows me to tell unique stories, with every work carrying the soul of my creativity.
My journey as an artist has been enriched by the opportunity to study Japanese enamelling techniques in Osaka and Nagoya, Japan, as well as with some of the world’s most esteemed enamellists. These experiences have further fuelled my belief that the key to artistic growth lies in lifelong learning. I consider myself a perpetual student, constantly honing my craft and expanding my knowledge.
In addition to my personal work, I am honoured to teach and share my passion for enamelling with my students. I see myself not only as an artist but also as an advocate for this beautiful art form, guiding others in their own creative journeys. To me, the true joy of enamelling lies in its ability to inspire self-expression and ignite the imagination of those who encounter it."
